Tall Pines Roofing roof installation on a Rochester, NY home

Window replacement in Ontario

The Town of Ontario's whole northern boundary is Lake Ontario. Windows here face open-water wind, and we install ones built to hold up to it.

Tall Pines Roofing handles window replacement throughout the Town of Ontario, from Ontario Center and the hamlet of Ontario out to the lakeside communities. Our value line is ProVia Endure, an ENERGY STAR-certified vinyl window. Our premium line is the Vytex Potomac HP Series, with a magnetic seal, Q-Lon compression gasket and triple-pane glass choices. Estimates are free and done at your home.

Ontario runs from the Monroe County line on the west to Furnaceville on the east, and Lake Ontario forms its north edge. Bear Creek, Lakeside and Ontario-on-the-Lake all sit near the water, while Ontario Center and Union Hill are farther inland.

Local homes

Do lakeside and inland Ontario homes need different windows?

Not different products, but often different priorities. A house close to the shore takes the brunt of north wind, so air sealing comes first.

Either way, we start with the openings themselves. Picture windows facing the water, sliders off a back deck and casements over a kitchen sink each get measured and matched to the right style.

Weather & exposure

What does Lake Ontario's wind do to your windows?

Cold air moving across open water picks up moisture, and the National Weather Service explains that this is how lake-effect snow forms downwind of the Great Lakes. On the lakeshore, that means wind pressing on the glass for days at a time. Worn weatherstripping lets it through, and single-pane or failed double-pane glass turns ice-cold to the touch.

Which window fits

What we recommend for Ontario's lake side

For homes near the shore, Potomac HP is the stronger fit. Its magnetic seal and Q-Lon compression gasket close the sash tight, it posts a .01 air infiltration rating, and the ENERGY SAVER MAX-hp triple-pane package meets ENERGY STAR 7.0 for the Northern zone. Inland homes on a tighter budget do well with ProVia Endure, which uses barrier-fin and bulb-seal weatherstripping.

Permits & approvals

Do Ontario homeowners need a permit for window work?

The Town of Ontario's building permit page lists alterations among the projects it reviews and invites residents to ask whether a specific job needs a permit. Tall Pines checks with the Town of Ontario Building Department at 1850 Ridge Road before we schedule your install.

Local answers

Ontario window questions

Is triple-pane glass worth it this close to the lake?

For a house that takes steady north wind, it's worth pricing. Potomac HP's ENERGY SAVER MAX-hp package uses three panes with two Low-E coatings and argon fill. We'll quote it next to a double-pane option so you can weigh the difference.

Can you put a large picture window on a lake-facing wall?

Yes. Endure includes picture windows, and bay and bow units are available if you want the view to wrap around. We'll measure the opening and talk through sizing on site.
