Fairport is a village inside the Town of Perinton. The Perinton town historian's account says the canal became navigable here in 1822, warehouses soon lined its banks, and the New York Central Railroad arrived in 1853. Fairport incorporated as a village in 1867 and grew into a manufacturing center served by both canal and rail.

Is your Fairport house a landmark or in a historic district?
Find out before you choose a window. The Village of Fairport Historic Preservation Commission says owners of a village landmark or a property in a village historic district must get a certificate of appropriateness before making exterior alterations. Not every older house in the village is designated, so checking your property's status is step one.
If yours is, grid pattern, color and finish carry extra weight. Potomac HP's Colonial and Prairie grids and VyWood laminates give you more ways to stay close to the house's original look, though the commission makes the final call, not us.
Weather & exposure
What does a Fairport winter ask of a window?
Fairport's winters are long, and the village sits in the ENERGY STAR Northern climate zone. Criteria for that zone focus on a low U-factor, which means less heat escaping through the glass and frame. Endure is ENERGY STAR-certified, and the two featured Potomac HP glass packages, ENERGY SAVER MAX-hp and ENERGY SAVER R5 with TripleSilverLoE, meet the 7.0 Northern requirements.
Which window fits
Which line fits a canal-village home?
For a 20th-century house that isn't a landmark, Endure usually covers it at a lower cost, with welded corners, foam insulation and plenty of colors. For a designated property, or any house where grids and finish define the look, Potomac HP brings 18 VyCoat exterior colors, VyWood laminates and three grid styles to the conversation. We'll show you both side by side.
Permits & approvals
Who reviews window work in the Village of Fairport?
The village's Building, Planning, Zoning and Code Enforcement office says most construction projects need a permit. For a village landmark or a property in a village historic district, the Historic Preservation Commission also has to approve exterior changes. Tall Pines confirms both with the village before ordering, so you never end up with windows that can't go in.

Local answers
Fairport window questions
How do I find out whether my Fairport home is a landmark or in a historic district?
Ask the Village of Fairport. The Historic Preservation Commission page on the village website lists a staff contact, and we're glad to help you frame the question during the estimate.
Does the commission care about the inside of my windows?
Its role, as the village describes it, centers on exterior alterations to landmarks. Interior choices like Endure's woodgrain finishes are yours to make.
Can you put hopper windows in a Fairport basement?
Yes. Hopper is one of the Endure styles. It tilts in from the top, which works well for small, high basement openings.
